301.2 Spring Issue 2016

Welcome to our 16th Annual Hearst Poetry Prize issue. Sincerest thanks to our judge Jane Hirshfield. We’re also excited to announce that 2016 marks the inaugaural online issue of the North American Review. Online-only content can be found at www.northamericanreview.org. Thus far, you’ll find a flash of cover art from the talented Catherine Byun, wonderful poems by Amy Roa and Brian Phillip Whalen, and an offbeat outback story by Laura Jean McKay. Our plans are for this site to uphold the high standards of our print publication while being more accessible to a wider readership. Perhaps nonfiction contributor Robert Barba says it best: “I initially had a little old-fashioned regret that [‘Three Bakeries’] was not published in print that I could hold in my hand, but that has vanished as I realize how many more readers have access to it online and the ease with which I’ve been able to share it.” Amen to that. We’ll keep adding new art, poetry, and prose throughout the year, so check back often.
